Sunday evening (August 27), moments before the likes of Kendrick Lamar and Ed Sheeran took to the stage, the reality television star-turned-Hip-Hop sensation Cardi B took to the MTV Video Music Awards pre-show to deliver on a performance of her breakout track “Bodak Yellow.”
Following her departure from Love & Hip-Hop, she’s gone on to create her own lane with the success of her Gangsta Bitch Music Vol. 2, and even making history as the highest-charting solo female rapper on the Hot 100 since Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda.”
“Bodak Yellow” was since followed up with a Latin Trap remix, featuring Messiah in which she blends both English and Spanish for a remix that pays the ultimate homage to her upbringing.
Currently basking in the stardom that comes with a song that’s peaked at No. 2 so far on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, Cardi took to the big stage to gift us with an appearance that’s been years in the making
The Bronx-bred femcee has experienced a Cinderella story that’s too hard to hate on, and for those who hate anyways, she’s practically unbothered if Sunday night’s performance was any indication.
